The Day Off

Today was a day of mental reparation.

I have been recently longing to visit SF and potentially live there, however I don't have $3,000 a month to just slap down for rent in the Mission (my dream spot to live). I then realized... Why am I not checking out Sacramento? See what the capitol of California has to offer for me?

So thats what I did today. I hopped onto Yelp and researched some really great coffee and record stores to go to and I went! I was originally going to check out The Chocolate Fish in Sacramento however the pictures just didn't seem to present the ambiance I was looking for in a coffee restaurant. I then found The Mill in midtown Sac and I thought, this place will do! I got in my car the next day and drove in the gloomy, rainy weather to I street and entered The Mill.

Right of the bat I was instantly happy with my choice of coffee shop. The interior design was incredible. All wood finishing, a few plants scattered throughout the place, and some really f*cking good coffee. I sat down and ordered a vanilla latte (which was AMAZING) and thankfully they had free wifi. I then caught up on some blogs that I wanted to read and just enjoyed the current setting and appreciate what I have been graciously given in this life from my parent's hard work. I finished my latte about an hour later and left. I would have taken more pictures however I just felt so out of place to be taking tons of pictures and I thought the employees were low key judging me (which they weren't I'm just a little paranoid).

Next I drove around trying to find a good record shop, and after checking out two, the third one was perfect! I have actually been to it before, and it was Dimple Records. This place has such a great selection of vinyls, CDs, DVDs, and video games throughout the store. I immediately went for the vinyls because I'm desperately trying to build my collection, so I picked up a Radio Head mixtape, TYCHO, and Major Lazer. Unfortunately they did not have any MF Doom on vinyl, but they did have "Mm... Food" on CD, so I bought it without contemplation.

I've decided (also encouraged by my father) to support the local music industries rather than Apple. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Apple products (as I type on my Macbook Pro), however I just have this guilty feeling buying music from iTunes solely because I find it hard to believe that most of the profits are going to the artist. Now I know, a record store probably doesn't give much more profit to the actual artist, HOWEVER, I feel better supporting a local business rather than a multi million (billion?) dollar company.

All in all today was great. I am most definitely going back to this coffee shop tomorrow with my sister so she can study and I can do blog/ youtube work. Its such a work conducive environment I can't help but go there on a semi regular basis.

Stay well dressed and I will talk to you all tomorrow!
