DIY Asymmetrical Skirt

This is the final result of the skirt my grandmother and I made together! Well... We sort of made together. We were originally going to make trousers with the houndstooth fabric but then decided a skirt would be much much easier! We ran out of time therefore my grandmother just finished it up and mailed it to me and here I am!
Obviously since this skirt is home made I wanted to style it as soon as I got it, and that is precisely what I did. The skirt is made from a beautiful wool houndstooth printed fabric, with some silk lining on the inside. I wanted to keep consistent throughout the outfit with classiness of the skirt, so naturally I gravitated towards my sister's crisp white button up blouse. To stay warm I layered my forever 21 sweater over the blouse, and surprisingly the sweater seemed to go with the flow of the outfit. I'm still trying to figure out if it matched effortlessly or if it looks like I tried really hard to put it together. Regardless, I personally love the combination. For shoes I kept it simple and easy to walk in with my ASOS sandals. I swear, once I begin college in SF again these will be my trusty go to shoes!
